At age nine, Bryan Shumway began racing go-karts. In his first season, he raced on the road course at Sugar Hill Speedway in Weare, NH as well as the oval circuit. Because of his age, Bryan always had to compete in a restricted class. In his third year, Bryan raced three different weekly tracks on both road course and asphalt ovals. Bryan was the track champion in the road course, second in the junior restricted oval at Pinnacle Raceway, second place at Londonderry Speedway, and third place at Sugarhill Speedway.
In 1999, Bryan had his best year, again racing three tracks and three divisions. He secured track championships in the junior stock oval and junior road course, and second place in restricted Junior at Pinnacle Raceway. At Londonderry Speedway, he claimed third place honors in the junior stock.
Bryan started the 2000 season running two tracks in the Senior stock medium class. Again he held on to the points lead at both Pinnacle and Londonderry race tracks for more then half the season, finishing second at Pinnacle and third at Londonderry.
At age 16, Bryan moved to the NASCAR WEEKLY RACING SERIES at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester NH, a high banked asphalt quarter mile. As a rookie in the Mini Stock class, Bryan had an up and down season but with his dad and a limited crew, he finished seventh over all in the point chase. His season included 2 wins (the only rookie to do so), many top 5s an top 10's as well as taking home the Rookie of the Year and Best Appearing Car awards.
The following year, Bryan entered the Strictly Stock Division. With many trips to the podium, top 5's and top 10's, Bryan again was awarded Rookie of the Year, sixth in points and Best Appearing Strictly Stock.
2003 brought another career move, now into the Late Model Division; again making four trips to the podium, eight top 5s, thirteen top 10s with only two finishes outside the top ten. This also marked the second year that Bryan finished every lap in every race. Bryan finished fifth in points at Monadnock Speedway and was the top finisher in the Northeast regional top fives for 2003. Once again, Bryan was honored with Rookie of the Year and Best Appearing Late Model.
For the first time in his racing career, Bryan did not move up a division. In 2004, he again competed in the late model class. With a trip to victory lane and many top 5's, and top 10's, Bryan had another successful year finishing eighth in points.
In 2005 at the age of nineteen, Bryan moved to the premier PRO Stock Division looking for solid finishes and a chance for another Rookie title. Bryan ran wheel to wheel with the best of the veterans, taking down 2 wins, 6 top 5s, and 13 top 10s. Bryan missed Rookie honors by just six points-- also voted Best Appearing Pro Stock.
In 2006, Bryan entered the True Value Modified Racing Series and ran selected shows with his Pro Stock at Monadnock Speedway. Bryan qualified for all six Modified races he entered, and will run the full tour in 2007
